CAPITAL OUTLAY COMMITTEE

                                                    DECEMBER 16, 2010

                                                            MINUTES

 

The meeting of the Capital Outlay Committee was held at 7:00 pm in the Selectmen's Meeting room and was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chair Paul Linehan.

 

Members Present:

Finance Committee:    Gordon Gladstone and Josh Kiernan

School Committee:       Jeffrey Cruzan, Emily Smith-Lee and Mitch Blaustein (Alt)

Finance Director:          Bill Fowler (ex-officio)

Town Administrator:     Benjamin E. Puritz (ex-officio)

1.                  Administrative Items

 

Chair Linehan asked the Capital Outlay Committee members to introduce themselves.

 

Approval of December 9, 2010 Minutes

 

VOTED:  (8-0-1)   Voted unanimously to accept the meeting minutes of December 9, 2010

 

2.                  Sharon Public School Capital Outlay Requests FY2012 – Dr. Dunham

 

Dr. Barbara Dunham, Superintendent of Schools, Ken Wertz and Leo Brehm presented the following Sharon Public School Requests:

 

v     Total District-wide Technology                               $464,817

v     Total Sped Acoustics                                                  35,000

v     Total Kitchen                                                              35,000

v     Total Furniture                                                            32,690

v     Total District-wide Projects (HS roof)                    1,578,500

v     Total District-wide SPED School vans                     61,306

 

 

The total for capital requests is $2,207,313.  Without the HS roof project the total is $947,313.

 

Take roof off COC and make it a Town mtg. debt inclusion override.

 

Joe Roach feels an override would be the way to go so as to take the burden off on Capital Outlay.

 

Dr. Dunham stated that the Massachusetts  School Building Authority will let the School Committee know if they are going to fund a portion of the High School roof (MSBA)by mid-January.0
